Biography Emily Tyrrell is a peripatetic music teacher and performer based in the West Midlands.
Born in Worcestershire, Emily now works in the area she knows best. She began her musical studies at school, learning violin, recorder, piano and, later on, oboe and saxophone. After leaving school she undertook formal training at Birmingham Conservatoire where she studied oboe with the Principal, Professor George Caird as well as receiving tuition in conducting, Baroque oboe, cor anglais, singing, recorder, violin and keyboard skills.
Emily is passionate about music education and, since her studies, has concentrated much of her time in this field. After her training at Yamaha Music UK she began teaching keyboard/piano to both youngsters and adults. She now also teaches recorder, and leads a Community Youth Choir in Redditch. Emily currently teaches around 80 pupils in Worcestershire and Warwickshire each week, working for various schools and organisations, including Worcestershire Youth Music.
In 2008, Emily launched ZauberZone. Having been an avid concert-goer all her life, she was keen to encourage children and their families to actively take part in music through workshops and concerts specifically tailored to a young audience. With the invaluable help of Jonathan Cochrane at Redditch Borough Council, she continues to organise events at Redditch Palace Theatre.

As a performer, Emily has played oboe (including Baroque oboe and cor anglais), violin and recorder extensively in her local area as well as across the UK, including in prestigious venues such as Symphony Hall, Birmingham and the Royal Festival Hall, London. In 2007, she made her debut as a conductor when she was asked to direct Handel's 'Messiah' with professional soloists and orchestra. She has since conducted other works, including Vivaldi's 'Gloria' for Redditch Choral Society, a summer concert for Alcester Singers and six performances of 'Die Fledermaus' for Astwood Bank Operatic Society.
Emily continues to be passionately involved in local music making. As well as being an administrator for the Arts In Redditch website, she is the Hon. Secretary of Redditch Choral Society, the Acting Secretary of Redditch Music Society and is on the committee of Redditch Arts Council. In her spare time she visits the Birmingham Royal Ballet studios where she studies classical ballet.
Emily is particularly indebted to Alma Bright Clarke who has encouraged and inspired her for many years. It should be noted that it is Alma who, by bravely putting her choir into the hands of an inexperienced new conductor, allowed Emily to make her debut! Emily continues to benefit from Alma's invaluable expertise.
